BlueHost is one of the hosting providers with the best pricing. But this doesn’t mean that their services are compromised. The page loading speed is fairly good. This is because they manage the websites on their servers well and move the sites that need more resources to other servers so that they don’t disrupt the functioning of other websites on the same server. They have maximum uptime, which considering their low price, is impressive.
Well, I switched to BlueHost to increase the page load speed, etc. That’s not happening! In fact, it’s really bad with going into wp-admin. The recent outage too me by surprise and in talking with them I asked about “cloud redundancy” and was told the entire cloud service was down. There is something definitely wrong with that picture and they really need to look at how they are configured. Anyway, the pricing hook is dead on and I was believed to think I’d get the intro price for 12 months but guess what? Not gonna happen unless you do 3 years. I talked, at length with sales before making the switch and wasn’t told that, in fact was told just the opposite. So, yeah I felt the bait/switch routine.
If you’re looking for an affordable host, Bluehost is a solid, reputable choice, but their low cost coupled with their supremacy in the shared hosting arena is what makes this provider such a value deal. I am not unhappy overall with Bluehost, but have had the following experiences / observations with them. - If you want a decent speed, you will need a mid priced plan. The cheap ones, while good for startups, will never provide you with the tools and speed that is needed. - Their website has 'features' that can lead to catastrophic failures. For instance, under wordpress, turning on the CDN feature can cause your site to fail as it does not check to see if there are any potential issues. Turning it off again is no simple matter. - Backups are mostly useless. Even if you upgrade to site backup pro, you can not do much with it, nor can you successfully download a copy as it fails. - Technical support is a mixed bag. Some know what they are doing and some have no clue. I find the live chat to be the most useful. I always get a connection within a minute or less. If you get someone who knows their stuff, your issue can be resolved within a few minutes. If you don't, then it's a waste of time. Sometimes it's best to just try again. - There are bugs that are not being address. For instance, the file manager is not showing hidden files, in spite of that option being clicked. I have reported the issue but am doubting it will be ever fixed. Over all, when Bluehost works, it works well. When it doesn't, it can be very frustrating. Having said that, the help staff are courteous and have done a lot of resolve every issue I've had, even those which looked catastrophic. If you are running a wordpress site, I really do recommend them as they provide some wonderful tools that will get you out of some real trouble, especially when a plugin will lock you out for your site. Bluehost doesn’t promise a specific number in terms of uptime percentages, but they claim to be the best in the business. Our tests show 99.9% uptime for BlueHost.com. Users can boost security with SSL and SSH encryption, their servers utilize 10 GB connections, they have a UPS power backup system, and a super-strong server. Still, there’s a plethora of former customers out there who gripe about the slow load time.
This is an entirely different case from my experience with a similarly-priced shared host called MDDHosting (read my full review), where I've been hosting TechTage.com since 2011. As they're a much smaller, independent company (not a part of a bigger operation), they feel much "closer to the customers", and they proactively upgrade server hardware as newer technologies hit the market.
On hold for Bluehost to answer phone on a Sunday morning with “estimated wait time is 38 minutes”(somehow this was increased from my initial 31 minutes) Should I hang up now?. I noticed Bluehost answer phone very quickly if you call for their “sales” department and for the most part, each salesman I’ve talked to is very nice and also the tech department people.
Second, GoDaddy provides a ton of services beyond hosting. They were originally founded as a domain registrar, but now provide a huge range of business services. I’ve also written how their domain services compare to NameCheap and how their hosting compares to InMotion and SiteGround. But it’s important to “weight” your desire for convenience across a range of business products in addition to your desire for the best web hosting choice.
I really wish I had seen this review about Bluehost before I went and signed up with them a couple of months ago. I guess now it’s too late to get my money back :sadface. Overall, the SiteGround experience is definitely minimal when compared with what’s available from the Bluehost and GoDaddy plans. The SiteGround WordPress installation is the closest to a manually installed version of WordPress, with just their caching plugin added. New WordPress users may miss the extra features of Bluehost and GoDaddy, but those who are more experienced may appreciate the cleaner experience provided by SiteGround.
If you haven’t really managed a server before or built a website, I believe that Bluehost makes that experience a little bit easier with better support and a more clearly-organized dashboard. They are a little bit more expensive, but they are a great, full-featured web host and you really can’t go wrong with their shared hosting if you’re just getting started.

I had bluehost bill me two years in a row after I cancelled my account. When my card was billed a second time, I disputed the issue through my bank. My bank asked me to contact the merchant and see if we could resolve this without them. I made the call. The customer service person noted that my domain had expired more than a year ago but that she couldn't refund the payment because I had filed an active dispute. I figured I'd just let the dispute run its course - since customer service acknowledged the mistake, there shouldn't be an issue. I was wrong. Bluehost told my bank (USAA) that that I hadn't "properly cancelled my account within the agreed upon terms and conditions" and denied my refund. Let the buyer beware. I do not recommend bluehost at all.
Bluehost provides great value hosting products, quick live chat support. But they have stopped reseller hosting, and there are problems with previously sold reseller packages they won't fix, e.g. can't add in addon domains, and this problem can only be resolved by their QA department, which only works during US working time. For users outside US, it's a pain to get the support.
As far as pricing goes, they are fairly close, but I would give the edge to Hostgator here. As with any hosting, the longer term you sign up for, the cheaper it will be. In addition to that, renewal rates are usually always more expensive than the introductory rates. In this sense, I think HostGator has a little less “renewal shock” in my option, and over the years, they have been more willing to adjust renewal pricing than Bluehost.

Just like SiteGround, BlueHost uses Weebly as their primary website builder. However, there is a downside, as you can’t put your website in a subdomain. Apart from that, it’s a very powerful and versatile builder and it is good to see BlueHost including it. Furthermore, their templates that are free are outdated and the newer ones within 10 to 15 years cost money to purchase. I have spoken with Gentleman from WordPress and he explained they are there to help you for free and no charge; especially, since I was purchasing a brand new design~platform~template for my use. But, that other WordPress sites. I told them how Blue Host was charging us and he said come to them 24/7 and they will help us for free.
When purchasing any hosting plan with Bluehost, you automatically agree and pay for at least a 12-month plan up front. You have the added options of a 24 or 36-month plan but Bluehost does not offer a monthly plan. For startups and starter sites this large upfront cost can really stretch an already tight budget and might turn away some potential customers. If however, you are committed to being in business at least a year then you will still find that Bluehost has one of the best hosting deals around.
I literally can't state just how happy Blue Host makes me. Everytime I call in, they are super friendly and knowledgeable. I don't have to wait 30 minutes for someone to answer the phone either. Anytime I have an issue, they literally are HAPPY to resolve it. I have yet to speak with someone at Bluehost that was rude or not helpful. THEY ARE GREAT and I HIGHLY RECOMMEND using them.
