Bluehost was my first decent hosting experience. I left 1&1 crooks and needed a host with reasonable support and a billing department that wasn't purposely difficult to reach. Bluehost is mostly known for being a cheap entry-level shared host with easy enough to set up, but it's also an adequate resource for light hosting of other project. They target those interested is launching Wordpress blogs, and provide a reasonably good platform for this. The recent facelift to the control panel was helpful in some ways, but also complicated things unnecessarily. Their pricing has changed to limit domains and file space for entry level customers, but mostly what you get will be more than enough. Bluehost support is great, decently time and friendly.
What can I say? You get what you paid for — bad customer service and a complete lack of respect for its customers, plus an automatic renewal feature that borders on fraudulent. In case your wondering, they’re out of Provo UT; the address is 1958 S 950 East Provo, UT 84606 — just in case you need to make a call to the Utah Attorney General’s office….

Navigation: Like HostGator, Bluehost also uses the cPanel interface — again this is fairly standard for most web hosts. What makes it different is that the design is more intuitive and modern. Unlike HostGator’s classic cPanel design of menu sidebars and icons, Bluehost has  a more minimalist approach. The service implemented a cleaner look mostly composed of text and almost no clunky icons or clipart can be seen.
The constant up-sells or teased, handicapped features were loathsome. The support is rather bad. Periodically, our client sites would get wiped out or rolled back to the same point in time. Ever-increasing months of work, lost with nary an explanation from them. Finally, we graduated to tier 2 support we were given some insight into what was going on. One of the best business decisions we made was moving away from Bluehost.
The dashboard can be a little difficult to navigate if you are unfamiliar with web terminology. There's not a dedicated support person for your account, so if you have any issues you can chat online or call into a call center for technical or account support. When purchasing a domain - I made the mistake of not initially purchasing the domain privacy and was bombarded by phone and email from solicitors offering web related services. I went back and purchased it, but still continue to receive e-mails related to this.
Bluehost is great for small websites or businesses that are just starting out and can't afford to pay for a better hosting service. They are very affordable, easy to set up, and offer the basics to get a website up and running. The admin area is pretty straightforward and it's very easy to use. Though I'd only recommend them as a last resort if other more reliable hosts aren't affordable for the client at this point in time.

Upon contacting Bluehost, my friend couldn’t get his site back up despite that Bluehost said they would help. This essentially feels like a trial period, you only stay with them if you are satisfied, else you can claim and get your money back.
Sales agent called me 6 hours before our appt so we weren't both available for the call as we had specified. I asked him to schedule an appt for later he said that he would only schedule it to discuss more services and that it wasn't going to be so that I could express how I believe I'm not getting their service as promised. Agent was rude and defensive. He raised his voice and when I pointed out his lack of good customer service he responded, "I am not customer service, I am sales". I ended the call at that point.

If you’re after a dirt cheap web host then I think you cannot go wrong by signing up with BlueHost, of course you get what you pay for but I have found them to be reliable for small business and personal blog type websites.

It includes a Head-to-Head Comparative Analysis Report for critical ranking criteria. You also get a step-by-step DIY SEO program and an eBook on improving the SEO rankings of your website. Though, this service looks promising for a newbie, there are several cheaper or free SEO tools available in the market that can be used for the same purpose.

I had bluehost bill me two years in a row after I cancelled my account. When my card was billed a second time, I disputed the issue through my bank. My bank asked me to contact the merchant and see if we could resolve this without them. I made the call. The customer service person noted that my domain had expired more than a year ago but that she couldn't refund the payment because I had filed an active dispute. I figured I'd just let the dispute run its course - since customer service acknowledged the mistake, there shouldn't be an issue. I was wrong. Bluehost told my bank (USAA) that that I hadn't "properly cancelled my account within the agreed upon terms and conditions" and denied my refund. Let the buyer beware. I do not recommend bluehost at all.
On their top tier plans – Bluehost offers more features…though I’m not sold on whether they make up for the price. I mean, what is “2 SpamExperts” vs. “1 SpamExpert” – and I’d rather purchase an SSL from a third party provider like NameCheap than my hosting company. GoDaddy’s top tier plan just promises “faster speeds” – which makes me question the value of their middle plan.

I think HostGator is the best when it comes to uptime because not only do they guarantee a specific number that you can measure against, but they also had amazing uptime during my year long test. Have a specific SLA for uptime (such as 99.9%) is really important because if a host doesn’t offer that (like Bluehost) you have no way to measure the uptime against anything. This makes it tougher to actually make a claim if you have monitoring data to support the fact that your site has been down too much, and honestly, when hosts don’t have an stated uptime SLA percentage, it makes it seem a bit like they’re trying to get out of being held to a specific standard.
Turns out Bluehost blames the site developer and the site developer blames Bluehost for any problems anyway. Although my other site with Godaddy is small in comparison, the speed of the Godaddy site is so much faster, I literally cannot even count the 1 Mississippi before the page loads. Considering the millions and billions of pages on the internet, why is it that Bluehost seems to have so many problems with my few dozen web pages? Am I one of the few unlucky ones or is any website with more than a few pages not compatible with Bluehost hosting performance anymore? Is there a site storage size, where Bluehost is no longer viable for fast page load times? Am I correct in assuming that Bluehost is not a hosting company for any website with a desire for growth in sales? Perhaps I should have discontinued with Bluehost after the 3rd site downtime, but alas, how do I know some other hosting company won’t be the same or worse? Ultimately, the question from me is. . Is Bluehost capable of providing the 2 second or less page load times for a growing ecommerce site with dozens or hundreds of products and what hosting plan price will that be?

Additionally, our site got infected by malware for which we were offered NO support and instead were immediately transferred to a sales department who spouted a lengthy sales pitch and gave no genuine technical advice. When asked to speak with someone who wasn't trying to sell us a product, we were told that wasn't an option. I could go on about the billing department's 2-month runaround JUST for trying to change our password and registrant info - even with legal proof of account ownership and providing them with multiple other methods of verification, all of which were accepted but to no avail... Overall, an atrocious ripoff for the price with disappointing web-building tools and a complete absence of support.
But the fact proves that it's definitely a right choice I made. the emails were working today and all of a sudden after 9AM PST, the emails stopped working. So I contacted bluehost to find out what’s going on. I logged into the account and check as well. i went into the email area and found that all the emails on the account is gone. WTF! I’m with the agent chatting and it’s now 10:31AM PST and still no answer as to what happened and what is going on.
