I would think that if BlueHost was about to disable my site for a "virus or malware" - or for any reason - they might let me know.

Having used Bluehost for the past 4 years I’m surprised at the number of negative reviews here. I have several domains, databases, blogs, image galleries, etc. and all have been running fine. There have been a couple brief outages. Customer service and technical support were both excellent. I was able to talk to a person quickly and they helped me out within a few minutes. I am not a full-time web developer. I basically run my site as part of my business, but I have helped out associates with their websites and have found their web hosts to be a real pain compared to Bluehost. With Bluehost all my installed apps and scripts work like a charm. I would recommend Bluehost

However…I have noticed that in the past 6 months or so, HostGator’s support is not what it used to be. I had a ticket open and waited days for an answer, to the point that the technician apologized and issued me a month’s refund for having to wait so long. Sometimes their chat support hangs and the wait times are more than 20 minutes. They also ask you to sign in to get chat support if you’re an existing customer, which I think makes sense, but it seems like a bit of a nuisance to me.
I've used Bluehost for quite awhile. They said I was hacked once in 2016 and my accounts were all frozen and taken offline while I backed up my files and deleted them from the server. They couldn't show me proof of anything and offered a pay service of theirs to do a sweep, clean and check, which I declined. That was really the only major issue I ever had with them. Otherwise, their web hosting services and options have been a great solution.
The constant up-sells or teased, handicapped features were loathsome. The support is rather bad. Periodically, our client sites would get wiped out or rolled back to the same point in time. Ever-increasing months of work, lost with nary an explanation from them. Finally, we graduated to tier 2 support we were given some insight into what was going on. One of the best business decisions we made was moving away from Bluehost.
I am not unhappy overall with Bluehost, but have had the following experiences / observations with them. - If you want a decent speed, you will need a mid priced plan. The cheap ones, while good for startups, will never provide you with the tools and speed that is needed. - Their website has 'features' that can lead to catastrophic failures. For instance, under wordpress, turning on the CDN feature can cause your site to fail as it does not check to see if there are any potential issues. Turning it off again is no simple matter. - Backups are mostly useless. Even if you upgrade to site backup pro, you can not do much with it, nor can you successfully download a copy as it fails. - Technical support is a mixed bag. Some know what they are doing and some have no clue. I find the live chat to be the most useful. I always get a connection within a minute or less. If you get someone who knows their stuff, your issue can be resolved within a few minutes. If you don't, then it's a waste of time. Sometimes it's best to just try again. - There are bugs that are not being address. For instance, the file manager is not showing hidden files, in spite of that option being clicked. I have reported the issue but am doubting it will be ever fixed. Over all, when Bluehost works, it works well. When it doesn't, it can be very frustrating. Having said that, the help staff are courteous and have done a lot of resolve every issue I've had, even those which looked catastrophic. If you are running a wordpress site, I really do recommend them as they provide some wonderful tools that will get you out of some real trouble, especially when a plugin will lock you out for your site. Hi Lisa, it’s great to see and very refreshing to read an unbiased and honest review about a web hosting company like BlueHost. If you’re after a dirt cheap web host then I think you cannot go wrong by signing up with BlueHost, of course you get what you pay for but I have found them to be reliable for small business and personal blog type websites.
At first I thought it was a bad company, but when I tried it I found that this company was the best hosting company I used. Easy to use control panel and I don't the free SSL certificate, Unlimited email storge, unlimited bandwidth, free domain, 24/7/365 super support and many of the great features that I didn't get for free from a company before but I got it with BlueHost.
I have four websites hosted with Bluehost and after having my fifth website designed I decided to have it migrated over. This is a big membership style website and I wanted to have as little downtime as possible so I had the migration done by Bluehost a couple days before New Years when my business would be slow. They told me my SSL certificate would migrate over, my site was not secure so then they told me they were wrong and I had to get another one. 30 days later the site kept having many issues and not secure and then to find out Bluehost never completed the migration properly so they had to do it all over again. This took another week. Their system with migration is the worst ever because they do not use any type of support ticket system. If you send in a support ticket it will take at least three days for someone from the migration department to contact you. If they email you a question it will take them at least another three days to respond again because I am told every email or support ticket goes to the bottom of the list and you are not able to chat among a support ticket. They also have no phone number and the support or customer service at Bluehost tells me they also can''t contact them because they all are outside contractors. So with a couple questions back and forth it took ten days before they said they finished the migration but forget a step and it never happened. When we realize what happened and luckily my other hosting company still had my site live, we had to start all over.
