However…I have noticed that in the past 6 months or so, HostGator’s support is not what it used to be. I had a ticket open and waited days for an answer, to the point that the technician apologized and issued me a month’s refund for having to wait so long. Sometimes their chat support hangs and the wait times are more than 20 minutes. They also ask you to sign in to get chat support if you’re an existing customer, which I think makes sense, but it seems like a bit of a nuisance to me.
Setting up the e-commerce was a bit confusing, and I have found their how-to information a bit thin. I think they could do a better job of documenting this for newbies like me. However, I figured it out, and it has never caused me problems. Their tech support is great to work with, and have always been very polite and knowledgeable. I am not a professional web anything, so they really do make it as easy as one could expect it to be for a complete novice. I have never had an issue with down-time, slow page loads, etc., so I have been very pleased.
The company's entry-point pricing is extremely low, and while this will buy you up to three years of very low-cost hosting, do be aware that its post-promotion price will increase substantially, putting its subsequent year pricing more in line with the rest of its competitors. That said, we liked its 24-7 phone support, SSD support on some plans, and 30-day money-back guarantee.

BlueHost also provides good customer service, as the main goal of the company is to provide good customer support. Like HostGator, BlueHost also provide Email Support, Live Chat and Phone Support.
What sets the company apart is their first-year hosting price of less than a buck a month. The company's least expensive plan is a startlingly-low 80 cents a month. This is the least expensive hosting program we've seen, although the price does go up after that first year. In fact, most of the company's plans increase after their promotional price expires. 
I started with a plain shared website. Performance was horrible. Was upsold on a more expensive plan, improved somewhat but ended up with a another upsell just to move my site to another server because support was unwilling to help with issue that was plaguing the old server. After a couple month of trouble free time on the new cloud server, issues started popping up again. Frequent server down times or restarts, random reverse proxy or load ballancer timeouts. As soon as I can find a block of time to migrate my web site I am leaving.
People simply browsing the Bluehost website will be able to hop into a quick live chat with a sales assistant. I actually had a chance to try this out. I asked them a question about their server locations and the resulting customer service was great. They answered my question quickly and politely asked if they could help me get started hosting with them.

I can't rely on Bluehost when it comes to building a website for a serious business, even the dedicated hosting package, as I had too many technical issues with them and their support didn't help much, specially when it comes to server down issue, they simply tell you we are doing our best and leave you alone banging your head against the wall. I will never forget the time when my dedicated server went down for a whole week due to a major hardware failure!
They have their own "intrusion detection/prevention system" which stops their service from getting hacked, but I found out it doesn't actually protect my website. I reluctantly let the student fix my site after giving him my account details and he managed to find all kinds of flaws from the inside as well. He fixed most of them within a couple of days, from bad configuration, bad plugins, and hiding my personal email/account.

Phone support is usually a lot faster, plus you’re apt to get someone more technically adept.

The constant up-sells or teased, handicapped features were loathsome. The support is rather bad. Periodically, our client sites would get wiped out or rolled back to the same point in time. Ever-increasing months of work, lost with nary an explanation from them. Finally, we graduated to tier 2 support we were given some insight into what was going on. One of the best business decisions we made was moving away from Bluehost.
Other agents handled many other problems of similar difficulty with no sweat. In terms of human contact, BlueHost agents work without bells and whistles. They are very affordable, easy to set up, and offer the basics to get a website up and running. The admin area is pretty straightforward and it's very easy to use. Though I'd only recommend them as a last resort if other more reliable hosts aren't affordable for the client at this point in time.
It is really easy to set up- I had no problem getting up my first website up using their services. Since it was my first hosting company ( and currently my present ) I really didn't know how good I had it with their services until I tried out their competitors over the following 8 years. From Hostgator to godaddy it seems like a lot of webhosting companies you every little opportunity to suck an extra dime out of you. This is not the case with blue host. They are a true, no BS hosting platform.

If you really need a good technical support and reliability then don't use bluehost. They were completely irresponsible in my email disappeaing issue which they still can't identify how it is happening. All they will tell when they can't find the solution is the case is escalated to higher technicians. Then after 3 days no email regarding the solution and again we have to start over the process repeats, no solutions. What ever the settings how can emails be disappeared automatically and frequently. Bluehost can't be trusted for business people who deal with daily emails and follow ups.


I really wish I had seen this review about Bluehost before I went and signed up with them a couple of months ago. I guess now it’s too late to get my money back :sadface. I guess I shouldn’t complain too much, so far BH has been good and I have had to ask support for help, but I’m worried what the future will bring. Lisa, what host would you use for a small blog?

I'm always pleased to see secure shell (SSH) access, because it means administrators have a secure way of accessing specific configuration files.

On hold for Bluehost to answer phone on a Sunday morning with “estimated wait time is 38 minutes”(somehow this was increased from my initial 31 minutes) Should I hang up now?. I noticed Bluehost answer phone very quickly if you call for their “sales” department and for the most part, each salesman I’ve talked to is very nice and also the tech department people.


Normal operation is tested and gauged each month using a variety of analysis methods. If they do find that someone is hogging space by not following the terms and conditions, they’ll try to give them 48 hours to adjust their site — or they might shut them down. The biggest issues come in when customers use their unlimited and unmetered sites for storage and file sharing. They note that there are not “infinite resources”, and that there are “inherent maximums” that come along with technology.
I switched from another host because of frequent outages & poor customer service. Bluehost has been a great choice. It was easy to transfer my website with very available customer support. The dashboard is easy to understand & navigate. The price is a good value. They are an excellent choice for WordPress hosting. I have experienced virtually no outages since moving to Bluehost. Also speed & server response times were much improved. I am glad I found them.
