Bluehost Google Domain


On their top tier plans – Bluehost offers more features…though I’m not sold on whether they make up for the price. I mean, what is “2 SpamExperts” vs. “1 SpamExpert” – and I’d rather purchase an SSL from a third party provider like NameCheap than my hosting company. GoDaddy’s top tier plan just promises “faster speeds” – which makes me question the value of their middle plan.
Harassment I’ve been getting and no help to bring the platform~template to the C-panel. Their C-panel is more difficult than others I’ve delt with. Just today one of their sales reps phoned me arguing and high pressuring me to let them build my website and do the SEO words. I informed him, I would have to teach him what SEO words~phrases they would have to use and I wouldn’t be getting paid to teach them; because, they dont work with hardly any animal sites; just concrete and city lights [corporate] websites. He wanted a $1,000.00 a month for 6 months and $3,000.00 for a 5 page website that wasn’t going to work for my business. He was higher than the last guy 3 weeks ago that I mentioned on here.

Sales agent called me 6 hours before our appt so we weren't both available for the call as we had specified. I asked him to schedule an appt for later he said that he would only schedule it to discuss more services and that it wasn't going to be so that I could express how I believe I'm not getting their service as promised. Agent was rude and defensive. He raised his voice and when I pointed out his lack of good customer service he responded, "I am not customer service, I am sales". I ended the call at that point.
I’ve been with Bluehost for almost a year, I have a VPS with them, the uptime for the last 12 months is 100%, support is beyond good, they reply to me quickly usually within 5 minutes, last Friday morning, I was playing with Apache setting, trying to optimize Apache through WHM and finally I got a 403 forbidden error , my website went down, I couldn’t fix it…so I connected live chat support, they responded in less than 60 seconds, after 5 min. live chat support couldn’t fix the issue, he said to me: ” please wait for 5-10 min, I’ll get you a senior technician to fix your problem” 7 or 8 minutes later, he said to me : you site back to work , the senior technician said there was a problem with WHM and he gets it fixed” it took 17 -18 min. to fix my issue….
Now three months later most of our dashboard does not work, we realize that our site is being directed to a http and not a https sight and our site shows unsecure. When you type in https and my website address the site is all screwed up looking and if someone uses a Mac is automatically takes them to this screwed up site. I have spent over eight hours talking to the support at Bluehost over the past three days. They first said my developer had written the code incorrectly, then they said I had the wrong SSL certificate (they are the ones that got the certificate for me), then they said they were going to un-install and re-install the certificate and when that did not work they realized the last support person installed it wrong. My developer tells me that Bluehost has not configured the site properly during the migration. They tell me that I would have to reach out to the migration department because they have no way of doing that but they think the code is wrong and not a migration issue. I know it will take 3-4 days for the migration department to contact me and they will ask me questions which will take another 3-4 days and at the end they probably will deny any responsibility. So I am forced to pay my developer $300 to go in an correct the problem on the website that BlueHost created.

I was shocked of course that such a well known host would have such a huge problem, and not even warm me about it! A client could lose thousands before realizing that the problem was simply that their email had gotten closed with no warning before or after. Here is the kicker: Bluehost had no idea when it would be fixed or even had a short term solution for me. They were saying that it was something I was just going to have to deal with.
During my last semester of teaching I was approached by one of my students who said he could optimize my site and get many more readers quickly, but found some security flaws in the site which should be fixed first. He offered to fix it himself for free, but first I contacted support. They did not do much and claimed the site was in good standing with security.

For developers, Bluehost also supports the popular Ruby on Rails web framework.

I had bluehost bill me two years in a row after I cancelled my account. When my card was billed a second time, I disputed the issue through my bank. My bank asked me to contact the merchant and see if we could resolve this without them. I made the call. The customer service person noted that my domain had expired more than a year ago but that she couldn't refund the payment because I had filed an active dispute. I figured I'd just let the dispute run its course - since customer service acknowledged the mistake, there shouldn't be an issue. I was wrong. Bluehost told my bank (USAA) that that I hadn't "properly cancelled my account within the agreed upon terms and conditions" and denied my refund. Let the buyer beware. I do not recommend bluehost at all.
But the path to get here involved a support chat session lasting 45 minutes with someone so horrendous that all I can do is laugh now. To be fair, he must have been dealing with a dozen customers at once but he was so fine with being incompetent that he must have been at his wits end. I decided to abort this chat and look up info elsewhere and things worked out, but had I actually listened to anything he said I would have messed everything up very badly.

I am not unhappy overall with Bluehost, but have had the following experiences / observations with them. - If you want a decent speed, you will need a mid priced plan. The cheap ones, while good for startups, will never provide you with the tools and speed that is needed. - Their website has 'features' that can lead to catastrophic failures. For instance, under wordpress, turning on the CDN feature can cause your site to fail as it does not check to see if there are any potential issues. Turning it off again is no simple matter. - Backups are mostly useless. Even if you upgrade to site backup pro, you can not do much with it, nor can you successfully download a copy as it fails. - Technical support is a mixed bag. Some know what they are doing and some have no clue. I find the live chat to be the most useful. I always get a connection within a minute or less. If you get someone who knows their stuff, your issue can be resolved within a few minutes. If you don't, then it's a waste of time. Sometimes it's best to just try again. - There are bugs that are not being address. For instance, the file manager is not showing hidden files, in spite of that option being clicked. I have reported the issue but am doubting it will be ever fixed. Over all, when Bluehost works, it works well. When it doesn't, it can be very frustrating. Having said that, the help staff are courteous and have done a lot of resolve every issue I've had, even those which looked catastrophic. If you are running a wordpress site, I really do recommend them as they provide some wonderful tools that will get you out of some real trouble, especially when a plugin will lock you out for your site. Speed: When it comes to testing from other servers based in the US, Bluehost did just slightly better than HostGator. Tests from both DomainTools and BitCatcha averaged at 37ms – just a few milliseconds faster than the competition. This, of course, is barely an advantage. What was kind of worrisome was the consistency of Bluehost’s average speeds abroad. Servers located in East Asia and Australia did fairly well – giving responses of below 200ms. It was the results from European servers that can be a cause of concern. The tests averaged roughly 400ms – not really that impressive for users located in Europe.

Bluehost's security features are pleasantly surprising. It offers three antispam tools—Apache Spam Assassin, Spam Experts, and Spam Hammer—as well as hotlink protection. You can also create filters for email accounts and users, password-protect directories, create IP address blacklists, and manage private keys and digital certificates. I'm always pleased to see secure shell (SSH) access, because it means administrators have a secure way of accessing specific configuration files.

Eventhough their technical support representative is friendly. I contacted them about what seems to be complicated/advanced problem. six of their representative was either unable to present solution or had made assumption solutions which did not fix the problem. 8 hour of email/telephone marathon ensued, escalating all the way to manager. Turns out the manager knew the solution.
Just got off a call with Joe from support, been working on launching the site, and he was super helpful. As a person that had no clue how to set up a website it was really important for me to find a company with affordable pricing, one that has helpful resources, and great support. When i first wanted to start my websites, i search how to set up my blog and found lots of resources on how to do it on bluehost; when i encountered issues installing a theme i contacted support and they were really helpful. The rep was nice enough that he suggested couple of plugin to help me with my SEO stuff. So far been really happy with bluehost!
