I tried the basic “shared” plan for several months, the so called better performing and more expensive “cloud” plan for several months and I actually experienced faster page load times with the less expensive “shared” plan and about 1/5 the downtime. Each time I was scheduled to “migrate” hosting plans, “There was a problem in completing the request” and spent several hours frantically trying to communicate with Bluehost chat and on hold over the phone. While on the cloud, my emails were completely inaccessible, for several days, and I was told an outside tech had to be called. Their recommendation to me was to use “gmail” instead. It seems Bluehost is best as a “sales” company at the moment instead of providing fast website page load times, so people can grow their data storage and legitimately grow and upgrade their hosting plans. The Bluehost chat is often times a nightmare to deal with, whether the chat program works at all after 15 minutes and more wait times or freezes as it did with me several times.
They have their own "intrusion detection/prevention system" which stops their service from getting hacked, but I found out it doesn't actually protect my website. I reluctantly let the student fix my site after giving him my account details and he managed to find all kinds of flaws from the inside as well. Bluehost hosting service is the best service provider out there. If you do a search for web hosting providers they come up number one in each category and there is a reason for it. They are available 24 hours a day and money back guarantee was one of the reasons I picked them. I own a web development business named Cyber-Farms and the up time is critical.
Because Amazon‘s free web hosting tier doesn’t offer many of the features some of the other web hosts mentioned here do, it may serve us better to look at the pricing surrounding their paid services. We published an article covering Amazon Web Services’s flexible pay-as-you-go model for its cloud infrastructure service. We shifted to Hostgator last month. Before that, our site was hosted on with an Indian host called SquareBrothers. Our site suffered like hell during that period. The server breaks down every minute. Uptime was somewhere around 30%. They are a bunch of morons who cheat their customers. It was like a worst nightmare for us. I repeat Squarebrothers is the worst webhost in the world.
As far as pricing goes, they are fairly close, but I would give the edge to Hostgator here. As with any hosting, the longer term you sign up for, the cheaper it will be. In addition to that, renewal rates are usually always more expensive than the introductory rates. In this sense, I think HostGator has a little less “renewal shock” in my option, and over the years, they have been more willing to adjust renewal pricing than Bluehost.
The green line shows that the Bluehost performance remained stable until 17 virtual users were accessing the site simultaneously. Then, the load time increased from 2.55 seconds to 12.31 seconds. However, the performance soon returned to previous levels until 46 virtual users were accessing the site and it stopped responding, indicating it was unable to handle the load. We’ve been with Bluehost for many years. Recently we have encountered problems with e-mails sent from the site. When something goes wrong and there have been no software changes on our end, the finger points to a server issue. The most recent problem was html-formatted e-mails being sent from the code by the mature and widely used phpmailer library. They were being sent as plain text with nr paragraph codes embedded. A ticket to technical support was returned telling us that they don’t offer software support (which we never asked for) and to upgrade PHP from 5.3 to 5.4. This was the wrong answer, given that phpmailer works back to PHP 5.1.
We believe in our process, but the fact is web hosting can be complicated. The ‘best’ changes depending on need. The Godfather is one of the best films of all time, but you wouldn’t watch it if you fancied having a laugh. It’s the same with hosting. There are better services than iPage hosting, but if you wanted a super cheap plan with solid support, they’re worth considering.
Absolute trash of a service. Multiple issues that land squarely within Bluehost's circle of responsibility and they have precisely zero interest in looking to help. Bluehost exploits people with little to no technical knowledge and refuse to offer adequate support or assistance. When challenged by a someone with solid technical knowledge, it quickly becomes apparent that Bluehost do not know what they are doing by asking inane questions and assigning blame to third parties to dodge responsibility to their clients. Avoid using Bluehost at all costs. Even a free service isn't good value if it doesn't work and they refuse to help you.

BlueHost, like many other EIG-owned companies, is known for outsourcing technical support to countries with much lower cost-of-living like India, which results in a rather frustrating experience at times. In this time I have also used other web hosting providers for different websites I have worked with and I have to say that until December 2013 I was extremely happy with their hosting. In a period of 4 years my website went down just once and the issue was fixed faster than expected. Whenever I needed help from them they were always quick to answer with useful tips and information. Their hosting could be considered the best until December 2013. In December all the websites I hosted at Hostgator were hacked. The brought the websites back up using their backups right after I reported but my websites were hacked a second time soon after. They fixed it again and I changed all my password to find out that 1 website, not all of them anymore, was hacked again in January 2014. After the last website was fixed I haven’t had any issues with them. The hacked websites were marked as malicious websites from google and antivirus softwares and it would have cost me lots of customers if hostgator didn’t perform their server scan for malwares and remove the threads.

Keep in mind that TTFB times are best analyzed as a trend. But as a general rule, I’ve found GoDaddy to be slower than Bluehost. Bluehost is slower than HostGator. And HostGator seems to fluctuate but generally be tied or slightly slower than independent competitors that I also use such as SiteGround (vs. GoDaddy) or InMotion Hosting (vs. GoDaddy).

Comparing Bluehost and GoDaddy on price is quite difficult for 2 reasons. First, they both run frequent specials (see Bluehost’s current deal here & GoDaddy’s here), so their pricing is never going to exactly align in the short-term. Second, GoDaddy breaks their tiers of service down differently from Bluehost, who reworked their tiers in 2016. The new Bluehost tiers consist of a super cheap, but limited Basic plan, and a Pro tier with a couple domain upsells. I had used BlueHost for a personal blog that I've taken down now but I still believe I'm well versed with its services as I started using it two years ago. To start with, I believe that out of all the hosting services that I've ever used, BlueHost has to be the cheapest (effectively) considering the fact that they threw in a domain name as well as a SSL certificate along with my hosting plan. As my WordPress-based website was quite lightweight I went for the cheapest hosting plan.
Now three months later most of our dashboard does not work, we realize that our site is being directed to a http and not a https sight and our site shows unsecure. When you type in https and my website address the site is all screwed up looking and if someone uses a Mac is automatically takes them to this screwed up site. I have spent over eight hours talking to the support at Bluehost over the past three days. They first said my developer had written the code incorrectly, then they said I had the wrong SSL certificate (they are the ones that got the certificate for me), then they said they were going to un-install and re-install the certificate and when that did not work they realized the last support person installed it wrong. My developer tells me that Bluehost has not configured the site properly during the migration. They tell me that I would have to reach out to the migration department because they have no way of doing that but they think the code is wrong and not a migration issue. I know it will take 3-4 days for the migration department to contact me and they will ask me questions which will take another 3-4 days and at the end they probably will deny any responsibility. So I am forced to pay my developer $300 to go in an correct the problem on the website that BlueHost created.
