BlueHost is a veteran of hosting business. The founder of this company, Matt Heaton, has been working with hosting since 1996. When BlueHost.com was established in 2003, he already had the experience needed to turn it into a successful business. Since the very start, people fell in love with their web hosting services. However, as years went by, new things have happened. In 2010, amidst a lot of speculation, BlueHost left the hands of its initial owner. The company was acquired by the Endurance International Group. This group has got itself somewhat of a negative reputation due to their lack of involvement in the service improvement. It has been over 7 years since they acquired this company and it definitely did not shrink in terms of popularity. Is it the same with its quality? Well, that’s what we will be looking into in this BlueHost review.
For the non-techies who want to use WordPress to create their website, BlueHost offers a special feature called the “WordPress 1 click install”. And it does exactly what it says, lets you install WordPress in seconds. This makes it possible to get your WordPress site running in seconds. Besides, there are also some WordPress related features and special support from WP experts that you can subscribe to.
Money orders or Checks: Money orders and checks are accepted, but only in US money. The hosting term must also be for 12 months or longer. An invoice will need to be created before you send a check or money order, this is to ensure that the amount paid is correct. Services that require monthly renewal cannot be paid by check or money order; they require an active credit card or PayPal account. Checks and money orders can be sent to the following address:
I've used Bluehost for quite awhile. They said I was hacked once in 2016 and my accounts were all frozen and taken offline while I backed up my files and deleted them from the server. They couldn't show me proof of anything and offered a pay service of theirs to do a sweep, clean and check, which I declined. That was really the only major issue I ever had with them. Otherwise, their web hosting services and options have been a great solution.
The third plan, the ‘Choice Plus’ costs $16.99 monthly, with a promo rate of $5.95 a month for the first 36 months. The plan comes with domain privacy protection for one domain. Like the ‘Plus’ plan, the ‘Choice Plus’ plan also offers SpamExperts protection for a domain of your choice. More importantly though, the service comes with automated backups through CodeGuard Basic.
I’ve been using Bluehost for about three years now. As shared-hosting providers go, they are a notch above similar providers. Speed is above average compared to others I’ve used in the past. Though I haven’t needed their support staff a lot in the past few years, the few times I have, they’ve been responsive and friendly. I have just renewed my hosting account for another three years and I can honestly recommend Bluehost to anyone looking for a stable and dependable hosting solution.
For those just getting started, perhaps on their first website, we’d like to point out that Bluehost has revamped their user experience — beefing up the user-friendliness factor significantly in recent years. Users will find the dashboard and overall customer experience to be welcoming — about as non-daunting for newcomers as web hosting gets. If you’re looking for WordPress hosting specifically, whether on a shared, cloud, or dedicated server, you’ve come to the right host. Bluehost is one of the few providers endorsed by the WordPress Core team. Install the popular blogging platform in a single click via the control panel, or have their managed services team take care of it for you.
I'm able to easily setup redirects, add-on additional domains to my account and easily manage the multiple domains from one easy control panel. I can setup email accounts for each domain and lump everything together under my one account and one price. They offer quite a few plugins and options for more advanced web designers and companies with more demanding needs.
When running business website online, there are a number of things asking for your attention. Besides, for a server related issue, you would want to resolve it as quickly as possible. In that case, you wouldn’t want to rely on email support. Sending an email and then waiting for the service provider to respond is beyond annoying when you have a critical network issue on your hand.
Used to be a good hosting company. Downhill for a year now, with problems escalating since Jan 2016. Cpanel does not work. Hotlink protection does not work. Contacted support and they tried to blame me. I told them it was a file change they had made and I had deleted my htaccess file and used their own cpanel hotlink protection and it failed. Support person deleted files they had changed to erase their fingerprint and it still does not work. Domain manager, cannot disable Privacy Protection. Chat support unable to assist said created Help ticket. Copy sent does not include issue. Contacted support again to verify ticket and was told nothing they can do, Domain Support not in on weekends! So much for the 24/7 support they advertise! Make Copies of EVERY contact with Bluehost including your billing info. This is interstate commerce and carried out over wire.
I am not incredibly savvy when it comes to creating and managing a website, so I was confused about the different levels of purchase available. I was not sure what level of traffic I would receive on my blog, or the type of advertisement options I might want available. I also was not sure about affiliate programs. Blue Host also prompts you to use Word Press, which is fine for my site, but may not work for others. I think the push to use this specific secondary source as a blog site might interfere with the work you do online.
I especially find it unacceptable when my friend didn’t get the support from Bluehost to fix anything. He has been paying almost double the price of what other hosting companies would charge for a similar package, and he’s not getting what he deserves to have out of this deal at all. Bottom line is, there’re better service providers out there who are more responsible and would cost less.
After spending years on my website, it suddenly started getting wiped. I was happily using Concrete5 to build my site. Bluehost, forced installed WordPress, without my permission. It overrode/wiped my site, and replaced it with a blank WordPress blog. I changed it back over and over, requested they stop doing it, but they kept doing it. They've obviously made a deal with WordPress, and are doing this on purpose. I can't use concrete5 anymore.. and get constant prompts to use WordPress instead. They also tried charging me for another site, one that I'd cancelled...twice. They still charged me for it.
First thing’s first—when it comes to web hosting, speed is very important. Some search engines are now using page speed as a ranking factor in their search results, so slower-loading websites may be shown below faster-loading websites. This means that it’s very important to choose a web host with fast servers who is good at managing their resources, especially on shared servers.
BlueHost offers plenty different types of services – the only notable exception is the lack of SSL certificates, which you can’t buy together with your purchase. You have to buy them from third-party providers or get one free of charge by setting up a WordPress website. And yet, with such a wide array of services, BlueHost try to be the Internet’s one-stop-shop for all things hosting. It is also worth noticing, that there are some extra features, available to all BlueHost customers, that make this provider all the more interesting. Here’s what they are:
I have hosted seven of my customer’s websites on Bluehost for nearly ten years. Not once during that time have my clients lost one minute of hosting service for any reason. Part of the reason for that I believe is because of the periodic updating of their servers. Bluehost appears to be operating and meticulously maintaining state of the art servers. Another factor in Bluehost’s outstanding performance in the quality and skill of the technical support representatives. When I have had a question about online renewal of my customers domain licenses or hosting or file uploads I can confidently tell my customers that I will have an answer for their questions in a matter of minutes. My confidence in Bluehost technical support was developed over those same seven years in never once having to wait for my call to be picked-up, never once having a support person provide an incorrect answer or solution to a request, never once having to ask a representative if they could transfer me to someone who spoke English. I will always reward a vendor that provides this level of service and this level of professional integrity, with my loyalty.
