They first said my developer had written the code incorrectly, then they said I had the wrong SSL certificate (they are the ones that got the certificate for me), then they said they were going to un-install and re-install the certificate and when that did not work they realized the last support person installed it wrong. My developer tells me that Bluehost has not configured the site properly during the migration. They tell me that I would have to reach out to the migration department because they have no way of doing that but they think the code is wrong and not a migration issue. I know it will take 3-4 days for the migration department to contact me and they will ask me questions which will take another 3-4 days and at the end they probably will deny any responsibility. So I am forced to pay my developer $300 to go in an correct the problem on the website that BlueHost created.

Other than all that, the first setup of the website was really easy, only a few clicks and it was ready. Everything went smoothly and although the site isn't super fast, it is up 100% of the time (or very close, I don't know what happens when I'm not on it.)

When you look at the other plans, things get slightly more complicated. But the key feature to call out is databases. BlueHost doesn’t limit them on the Plus plan. GoDaddy caps them at 25 on the Deluxe (which otherwise is comparable to the Plus plan). On the flip side, GoDaddy’s Unlimited plan does do unlimited storage, databases, and domains – but also adds SSL certificates and Premium DNS to the plan. Speed: When it comes to testing from other servers based in the US, Bluehost did just slightly better than HostGator. Tests from both DomainTools and BitCatcha averaged at 37ms – just a few milliseconds faster than the competition. This, of course, is barely an advantage. What was kind of worrisome was the consistency of Bluehost’s average speeds abroad. Servers located in East Asia and Australia did fairly well – giving responses of below 200ms. It was the results from European servers that can be a cause of concern. The tests averaged roughly 400ms – not really that impressive for users located in Europe.

I've been with bluehost several years as I used it to host my seeds to park the domains for my upcoming projects. I have several domains there about 50 of them. Last incident happened to me that i got hacked and 7 of them were stolen and moved to name.com. I contacted name.com and they replied promptly and they said to wait for bluehost's reply and they will cooperate to move them back. However, bluehost did not reply anything until I post a negative comment on twitter, 10 days later. 10 Days! Its an eternity for them to give a simple "hello, thank you for contacting us" reply. I strongly suggest for you guys to find a better place to host your domains, whatever reasons you are planning to, I think bluehost is NOT a reliable and safe place, its NOT worth it, at all and I advise you to stay away from them.

I had been hosting with Bluehost for a few months. A client called me and said they were having trouble logging into their email. I logged into cpanel and they were correct, their email address was somehow missing. I quickly called bluehost, and they agreed that some hosting accounts were just dropping email accounts. All the emails were still on the server, but every once in a while I would need to recreate the account for the client to access it.

Great question! Most good web hosts tend to offer 24/7 customer support and acknowledge that their customers are from all around the world so I wouldn’t worry too much about using an international host. As a Swede I find myself using a lot of US-based hosting companies and I don’t think it’s ever negatively affected me or the customer service I get.
BlueHost offers great initial deals to sign up. After that first contract is up though, they offer no other promotions and you are left to decide to transfers your sites to another hosting company or to pay the increased costs. It's kind of frustrating when you see the deals they offer new people but you cannot get the deals because you are a loyal non-new customer.
I’ve set up websites for clients who use GoDaddy and Bluehost. I currently have 1 website hosted by GoDaddy. Until Bluehost’s recent (aka 2016) pricing changes, I found the pricing trend that Bluehost is cheaper long-term (ie, after a year), and it was always cheaper for what you get in features. However, the new tiers tilt the cheaper long-term pricing towards GoDaddy but keep the value per dollar towards Bluehost.

Many services offer so-called unlimited or unmetered service for whatever amount of bandwidth, disk storage and sites you use. It's important to understand that most terms of service actually do limit the definition of "unlimited" to what's considered reasonable use. The bottom line is simple: if you're building a pretty basic website, unlimited means you don't need to worry. But if you're trying to do something excessive (or illegal, immoral or fattening), the fine print in the terms of service will trigger, and you'll either be asked to spend more or go elsewhere.

Each time I was scheduled to “migrate” hosting plans, “There was a problem in completing the request” and spent several hours frantically trying to communicate with Bluehost chat and on hold over the phone. While on the cloud, my emails were completely inaccessible, for several days, and I was told an outside tech had to be called. Their recommendation to me was to use “gmail” instead. It seems Bluehost is best as a “sales” company at the moment instead of providing fast website page load times, so people can grow their data storage and legitimately grow and upgrade their hosting plans. The Bluehost chat is often times a nightmare to deal with, whether the chat program works at all after 15 minutes and more wait times or freezes as it did with me several times.
